If the state would not do anything markets would still survive. They would be different than before but hopefully more stable. But if you try to prolonged the out-of-balance situation the problems will be harsher. You can allow free markets whith just a few simply rules.
1) abolish central banks as “lendors of last resort”
2) make everyone in banks be held responsible with their private property
3) disallow lending of money without it beeing backed up 100 % by insoles or equity.

The problem is gone, and will not have the chance ever to kreep up again.
