My experiences

I’m now using Linux for more than 30 years.

And for me, it simply works. All I need is there and to my big joy, my Linux boxes could be easily updated while just saving files below /home/MyUserName

So I took the ride from Slackware, Suse, Redhat to Debian, Ubuntu and currently Linux Mint.

The actual computer I’m currently using is around 5 -8 years old. I really don’t know, and an end of using it is not in sight.

There are a few things I really looked after:

– have enough RAM

– have an SSD for the boot system but also

– have a large screen

– have a good keyboard

– have a silent computer.

– have an own partition for the /home directories.

– and even in the later I have saved my VirtualMachines.

– if this thing breaks down, that what I really need to save to not lose any useful data

– yes there will be cruft in your home directory, the more you install, the more crap will survive, but still, it’s not much by today’s standards.

It can be that simple.
